Today we were lucky enough to have Jesse from Room 8 come and read to us.  He had lots of Fairy Tales to read and chose the Pied Piper of Hamelin. 

We really enjoyed listening to him read to us!

Mosaic Art

The weather has been lovely lately!  The sun is shining and we have been enjoying spending some time outdoors!  

What better way to celebrate the arrival of the sunny weather than by doing some mosaic art!  

Here we are working on our sun pictures!  These are still not finished but when they are we would love for you to pop in and see them!

The p sound

Today we learnt about the p sound.

Today some of us went over the 's' sound.
We watched a video on youtube to help us to think of words that start with the s song!

Ruben the Road Safety Bear

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have Ruben the Road Safety Bear join us and share his knowledge of Road Safety.  The playcentre joined in the learning also.

We learnt to 'Stop, Look, Listen and Link'

Mihi Video

In Room 1 we practice saying a short Mihi before we share our news every day.

Team Players

In room one we focus on the key competencies and what it means to be a Hinni Kid.

We have been focusing on what it means to be a team player and how we can play nicely together.  One of the ways we can do that is by sharing.  We have been learning all about sharing, how we can share and how it makes us feel when we share.

Today we read a book all about sharing:

We then practiced our sharing skills...

We know that if we would like something we need to use our manners to ask.  For example we can say "Can I please play with that?"  we know it is ok and to be patient if someone replies "No sorry I am still playing with it, you can have it after me".

Today we looked at the waste audit done by the Enviro Team.

We decided there were a few things we could do in class to help to Recycle.  Here are our ideas!

Our Dads

On Friday we drew pictures of our Dads.  We also talked about our Dads to Mrs Butler!  We watched a video on youtube of the book 'My Dad'

Monsters

Mrs Butler had lots of craft things out on the table this morning!

We decided to make monster pictures... here we are busy making our monsters!  We loved using the googley eyes!

Jolly Phonics

Every day we do some Jolly Phonics learning!  This helps us to learn the sounds that letters make!

Today we learnt about the i sound. We are super luck to have two boys from room two join us for our learning each morning.

Bubbles!!!

This week we have a big book and a poem all about bubbles!

Mrs Butler got us some mega bubble wands and we blew bubbles outside!  We even wrote a story in our class story book about it!  If you have not seen our class story book you should pop in and have a read of it!

We had a lot of fun blowing bubbles!

Dinosaurs

We love Dinosaurs in Room 1!  Today Mrs Butler put out some Dinosaur books and Dinosaur toys!  We have made a dinosaur world and have been reading books on the iPad about the Dinosaurs!  We have been learning about different dinosaurs and how they died.

Our first few days

Wow we have had a busy few days at school!  We have been learning how to be Hinni Kids, learning about books and reading and also learning about numbers and writing.

Yesterday Kyle and Jaxon spent some time in the sandpit working together to build a sandpit.  They discovered that
- when you work together you can get things done faster
- working together is fun
- talking to each other helps
- taking turns is important

Today we decided to write a sentence about what they did in the sandpit!  You can come into our room and read our stories in our class writing book!  Soon we will be able to write our own stories in our own books, but for now we are writing together!
