About Us

Welcome to Room 1's Blog! We are a lively bunch of new entrants who are embarking on our lifelong learning journey at Hinuera School! Our class grows at different times of the year but we are starting off with three wonderful students! We love sharing our learning so check out all of the fun things we get up to as we transition from Early Childhood education to Primary!

Poppy Art

Today in Room 3 we created poppy art.

We used a video to help us to draw our poppies...

We then used collage techniques to fill in the middle of our poppies and the petals...

Here are some action shots of us working on our poppies:

(Sorry Mrs Butlers computer wont let her flip the pictures!)

Te Reo Maori

In Room 3 we are learning to speak Te Reo Maori.

We have been practicing the Maori Alphabet using songs...

Here are two songs we have been singing in class!

Ignoring Muscles

Today we talked about what to do if someone is annoying you.

You can...
- Look away from the person annoying you.
- Turn your body away from the person annoying you.
- Do not talk to the person and keep doing your learning.
- Move away from the person.

We also learnt that it is very important not to talk to the person or laugh at what they are doing.  This makes them do the annoying thing more!

We call doing this using our ignoring muscles.

Here are some chatterpix clips of what we remember about ignoring...

ANZAC DAY

In Room 3 we have been learning a little bit about ANZAC day.

We watched a video and learnt what ANZAC day is and we watched a video to learn about poppies.

We know ANZAC day is "about remembering the people who died in the war" (Charlotte)

We wear poppies because "they died in the field for us and we hope they have a lovely time in heaven" (Julia)

We also have a field of remembrance set up at school.  Here we are visiting it today...
