Frog on a Leaf

In room 3 we have been learning about making our writing exciting!  We had a go at describing this picture...

The rain drips down onto the pond.  The petals are shiny like diamonds.  The twig is like a little boat.  The frog is on the boat scared.  By Jaxon

As the dribbling rain drips into my little ears I am frightened as I am clinging onto the stalk.  As the white petals float down like pillows falling from the sky the leaf floats across the dark pond with a little frog like a little person is holding it the frog was frightened as he floated along the pond. By Charlotte

The rain drizzled and drizzled onto the lumpy flower pond.  The wind pushed the petals around the boat.  By Olivia

The falling rain is like snow splashing into the flower pond.  The yellow and white petals look like diamonds in the pond the little twig and the big twig made a boat.  The frog made it.  When he got on his boat he clang onto the boat.  He was frightened.  The frog was very scared he clung on tight he didnt want to let go because he will fall off.  By Hayley

The rain drizzled and drizzled onto the lumpy flower pond.  The yellow and white petals are floating on the soft water.  The stick is like an umbrella and it is flopping down and keeping the frog dry.  By Thomas

The rain is falling like a hail storm.  The petals fell from a big tree like diamonds.  The twig had a leaf on it.  The frog held the branch scared.  By Alexis.

The rain dropped down onto the peaceful river it all began in one day.  The tiny quiet petals hushed through the river.  The frog built a twig boat he pushed the boat on the dark water.  By Vincent

Interschool Crosscountry

Yesterday was Interschool Crosscountry.

We went on the bus to the farm.  It was freezing cold and we had to try to stay as warm as we could under our tent on the hill.

When it was time for our race we all warmed up and then gave it our very best!  The hills were very steep and there were holes in the ground but we made it to the end!

Thank you to all the parents who came to cheer us on!

We LOVE to read

This term our library day has been on a Wednesday.

When we go to the library we make sure we are super silent so that we all can browse the books.

Some of us are even starting to read chapter books!

Here are a few exceptional readers from the library today...

Team Time

Did you know every week the Junior School gets together for team time?

We hand out mathletics certificates and the teachers give out special classroom certificates as well.

If we get a classroom certificate we get our photo taken by Mrs Butler and put on the Junior Stars window for all to see!

Here our the Junior Stars for Week 7

Aye Aye

Today we read a story called Aye Aye.

The story was about Aye Aye trying to be helpful but the twin bunnies were being mean and trying to win.  Aye Aye really wanted to be in a story book.  In the end Aye Aye got the trophy for being the most helpful person in the class and he got to be in a story book.

In the story they made paper hats.  We decided to make them too...

Here are some of our hats...

Holland

Today we were very lucky!  Holly's Au Pair, Esther, came to talk to us about Holland.  She shared some wonderful facts about Holland including where it was on the map.  Her and Holly taught us how to count in dutch.  She taught us about the windmills making flour, the thousands of bikes in Holland and the beautiful Tulips.

We made some tiles out of paper plates that had windmills or other dutch things on them.

We also got to sample some Dutch treats!

Thank you sooo much Esther for sharing with us the wonderful things in your home country of Holland!

Fuzzy and Nancy

Today we were lucky!  Olivia brought Fuzzy and Nancy to school for the day!

We read some Guinea Pig books and learnt about Guinea Pigs.  Mrs Butler was a little bit scared about having to get the Guinea Pigs out of their room!  When she got them out we all got to have a pat.

Sometimes they made squeaking noises and we tried to be as quiet as we could so we would not scare them!

We wrote stories about them and drew pictures of them which we also labelled.

Here is a picture of Olivia with Fuzzy!

Here are some of our writing!

Holidays

I hope you all have had a lovely holiday!  I am looking forward to hearing all about it on Monday!
I went to Whangamata in the first week of the holidays!  We had one nice day where we went for a lovely walk along the beach...

The rest of the time it poured with rain!  It was horrible!  We stayed inside and watched movies next to the fire!  I also read a few books which was relaxing for me!

I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Firewise

Over the last few weeks the Junior School have been learning about being firewise.

Yesterday we had two firemen come and teach us some more about being firewise.  They also brought an inflatable house with them that filled with smoke and we had to get down, get low and get out fast!

It was fun practicing what to do if there was a fire in our house.

Here are some pictures of us learning about being firewise...
